I bought an armchair the other day, a beautiful thing from Kontrast Antiques. I picked it because my husband complains that many of our chairs are for looking at rather than sitting on. He's very demanding. So I decided on this chair as it seemed suitably sturdy and comfortable, and I liked the vintage fabric it had previously been upholstered in. I am a bit of a weed when it comes to upholstering something, not only the cost of the upholsterer (who deserves every penny as it is a hell of a job) but the fabric on top. More than one metre starts making me a little hot under the collar. So we decided to get together some more affordable fabrics which will hopefully help you if you are looking to recover, curtain or tablecloth any surfaces soon.
