Favourite Antiques By Designer Georgie Stogdon
I have asked my friend and terrific interior designer, Georgie Stogdon, to share which antiques have turned her head this week.
Here are twenty antiques on the market at the moment that all caught my eye, from handsome, important early 19th pieces (some with lumpier price tags) to simpler, modernist work as well as the quirky and unusual. All these pieces make my heart skip a beat and have a common thread of being refined, beautifully made and rich with history. My real love is for older, vernacular furniture that has many stories to tell of owners' past, but mixing old and new can lift a space, and timeless, well-made pieces should be able to work together no matter their age. Special mention to no 20 - obviously, his wig is magnificent, but the oxblood cloak against the aquamarine background is real magic. I’d hang him alone on a clean, white wall for maximum impact.
