On holiday recently, I talked to an interior designer about why sometimes antiques will be passed over when figuring out a project. She made the point that when dealing with a stressful client, it's sometimes easier to go to those places you know will have a good bedside table, and that will do. Believe me, I understand that outlook. Clients can be demanding, and if something will do, well, that's good enough. But I am so committed to the ethos that antiques instantly elevate your home. I am not insisting we all go Miss Haversham, but even a wee addition of Hungarian jug or an old Welsh throw adds character and life.
