Dame Magdalene Odundo at Houghton Hall & Gardens

Do you remember that glimpse of summer we had in June? God, it was glorious, and in our foolish minds, we thought that was it—job done. Weeks of sun were on their way. On reflection, we know that wasn't the case. Nevertheless, I was lucky enough to spend that last weekend of sun at Houghton Hall as a guest of Loewe. We were there to celebrate the Magdalene Odundo

exhibition, which the Loewe Foundation sponsored and is currently exhibiting until September. My first recommendation is to go; you must. To see Odundo's work firsthand is something special; my words won't be able to exemplify the feeling I had when standing in front of one of her pieces. Whether it is the piece's movement, the silhouette it creates, or the texture, there are so many layers to adore and keep you in awe. She is without a doubt one of Britain's leading artists. Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to chat with her, and for a woman who is globally recognized and revered, it is a joy to know that she, like me, likes to talk about transport, the weather, and holidays. Although she could well have been humouring me, I'll take it.

Just to reiterate, I can't recommend the visit to Houghton Hall enough. Not only are you seeing one of Britain's Great Houses, but you also have the monumentally moving Odundo exhibition, the surreal Anthony Gormley exhibit, and a walk around some of the most ravishing gardens in the land, which are littered with exceptional pieces of art. You could not be disappointed, and if you are, well, I am at a loss to know what would brighten your heart.

Houghton Collection

On the grounds of Houghton Hall, there were five or so of the chicest loungers in existence; they are called the "Sasson Loungers" and are made by the Houghton Collection. The Houghton Collection was founded in 2002 by Lord and Lady Cholmondeley. Sustainability is at the heart of the collection; from the materials used to the manufacturing processes, they want the pieces to positively impact the environment and those who use them. It is also no surprise that these pieces are made to last; having a home like Houghton makes you appreciate craftsmanship and longevity. I was surprised not to be aware of the Houghton Collection and thrilled to make its acquaintance. A few of my favourites from the collection were the Georgian Drop Leaf Table, the Colette Chair, and, of course, the Sasson Lounger.
