Positions of Note: The Latest from the Tat Jobs Board & More
Show-stopping flair - Eight highly lust worthy jobs have newly appeared on the board this week.
Whenever the news starts going on about heatwaves, my mind simply wonders to the song Heatwave by Marilyn Monroe.
We're havin' a heat wave
A tropical heat wave
The temperature's rising, it isn't surprising
She certainly can
Can-can
And I forget to listen to anything further. But what else do we need to know? This weekend will be hot. I, my friends, will be doing nothing more than keeping myself and my new baby cool. So think of me as you sip rosé in a park somewhere — or perhaps you are bound for fun by the sea. Or maybe you, too, are sheltering from the rays, in which case, may I interest you in a couple of things that have occupied me of late?
The Remains of the Day — goodness me. Ignoring the great hollowing sadness that the film revolves around, I could see myself very happy sitting in a few of those rooms. In particular the sitting room, with its dark, sumptuous surroundings — only broken up by the gloriousness of the chintz armchairs. Catching a glimpse of the scene below was the reason I watched the film, and I was not disappointed. James Ivory, the director, is clearly as intrigued and beguiled by the life of a country house as I am. His curation of visuals, with the immaculate set decorating makes an interiors delighter like myself gasp, audibly, annoyingly and quite a few times.
Another, more jolly interlude in my week was listening to the podcast What Did You Do Yesterday? with Tim Key. I’m rather a big fan of Tim Key and have so enjoyed his recent publicity rounds for his film The Ballad of Wallis Island. I now know quite a lot about the film (also — I’ve seen it, and greatly enjoyed it — a perfect escape from the sun). So it was especially amusing to hear him simply musing about the previous day, which is the entire premise of the podcast.
We listened to the above on the way to Ham House in Richmond, a gasp worthy house I assure you. We are making good use of our National Trust pass.

p.s My husband also told me about a Tortoise/ Observer podcast which I have yet to get to but am eagerly anticipating a moment when I can listen to it - The Mystery of Francis Bacons Minder - I think you have to be a member to listen, but as a slight Bacon obsessive this is a no brainer for me.
