Positions of Note: The Latest from the Tat Jobs Board & More
Here we are again — another week, another dose of delightful Tat happenings.
So, what can I suggest for this week? First things first — if you’ve never watched The Forsyte Saga, then my friend, you are in for a treat. Well, that is if you’re partial to protracted period dramas, as I am. It’s the perfect remedy for sheltering from the sun. It also kept me occupied for most of the weekend, which is an odd way to spend one’s time, but hey, someone’s got to keep Netflix in business.
Netflix also came to my aid the previous weekend by introducing me to Dept Q, which I found to be just the right blend of thriller, comedy, darkness and, of course, Matthew Goode.
Things I listened to… well, I’m a little useless on this front, as I mostly tune into political podcasts which, usually, is fine and helps me feel vaguely informed. Though I must admit, this week they've left me feeling rather frenzied. One bright spot, however, was Lewis Goodall’s conversation with Chris Patten, once Chairman of the Tory Party. It felt like listening to grown-ups — compassionate grown-ups, at that. I particularly enjoyed his description of Nigel Farage as “the classic pub bore”.
Two more things worth mentioning. First, the Venetians protesting what might be the ghastliest wedding of the century: muscle man Jeff and his astronaut girlfriend Lauren tying the knot.
I read an article in The Guardian — ‘The city is being hollowed out’: the billionaire landlord locked in a David v Goliath battle for London’s West End’— and I have to admit, it makes me angry. The slow erosion of the places that make London so dear to me, the places that give this city its signature character, seem to have no defence in the face of billionaires and their ilk. I know there are far bigger things going on in the world, but let’s at least try to keep one eye on these battles. Otherwise, we’ll be left with little more than co-working spaces, salad bars and the abomination that is Starbucks.

So here are a gathering of holiday homes that you can book directly with the owner, no pesky middle men.

Cristine Bedfor Málaga: Designed by Marta de la Rica
We want to take you on a tour of this magnificent new hotel, created by one of Spain's brightest design stars, Marta de la Rica, for the boutique hotelier Cristine Bedfor. It's a delightful concoction of Spanish and English design, where guests will find themselves ensconced in a colourful, eclectic and, at points, theatrical hotel in the heart of Malaga.
What a galumphing beautiful affair. Perhaps you're in the market for an early 20th century alabaster pendant light, or maybe an extraordinary 20th century desk that could command a room on its own.
