Positions of Note: The Latest from the Tat Jobs Board & More
Another week, another glorious abundance — of beauty, of opportunity, and of things you never knew you needed until now.
JOBS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE EMAIL
Let’s kick off this scorcher with some glorious weekend suggestions. This week, I managed to hoist my great frame off the sofa and actually get out — miracles do happen. One place I can recommend with full conviction (and indeed, my whole chest) is The Hawthorn pub in Shepherd’s Bush. If you find yourself in the area — or anywhere vaguely west of Hyde Park — I’d say it’s about as close to the perfect pub as one can get. Excellent food, faultless drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere, all topped off by a team of truly delightful staff.
I must also mention my dear friend Claudia Legge’s exhibition of Underwater Abstracts. She hosted an evening at Loft Studios where her gargantuan, kaleidoscopic photographs were on display — and it was quite unlike any gallery opening I’ve ever been to. Less hushed reverence, more joyous revelry. It felt like a party for the pieces: a riot of colour, brilliant company, and truly excellent food courtesy of Kochi Kitchen. One couldn’t expect every gallery opening to reach such heights — but when it does happen, it’s rather glorious.

On Tuesday, I found myself lunching at The Pelican and dining at The Park — not my usual weekday rhythm, I promise, but it was my mother’s birthday, and all stops were duly pulled. Both meals were terrific, though the dinner at The Park wins out. I started with the prawn cocktail — a textbook American rendition — followed by a hot dog (done properly, mind you), and finished with vanilla doughnuts. All the glamour of a Corbin & King joint, with the charm turned up. Fine dining at its most relaxed and enjoyable.
Thursday morning, I had the pleasure of visiting the If Only If pop-up — a dreamy display of nightwear that, quite rightly, demands to be worn well beyond the bedroom. These are pieces made for drifting through the house and padding about the streets in this glorious June sun. I was on the hunt for a nightie that could see me through the early stages of motherhood, and I settled on the Clara — which I suspect will serve me rather beautifully.

That evening, we made our way to Beata Heuman’s Midsommer party. My word, that woman knows how to throw an event. Everything from the structure of her office - come - showroom- come- home most of us would give our right arm for, to the cheese toasties and drinks mixed by the ever-wonderful Rum Runner was done with a such a level of attention, its no wonder she is one of the shining lights of the UK design scene. It did rather make me question the point of throwing a party at all. Warm chardonnay and a limp cheese straw simply won’t cut it anymore. One wonders if I’ll ever get my act together and host a proper bit of revelry. Currently I strongly doubt it.
Few things I’d like to highlight for the coming days: first, Gated Canyons, Rachel Jones opening at the Dulwich Picture Gallery — I’ll be heading there next week. Second, outing will be the pilgrimage to the WOW!house, where there’s always something good to get your iris’ around. And today (Saturday, 14th June), one of my most beloved brands, Cawley, is holding a sample sale in South London — a must-visit.
