With Knock Knock, I always wanted it to be a place which would celebrate the real home. Being an interiors magpie, there are very few homes that I need help finding something to love. Even if someone has put some wallpaper up that isn't to my taste, I am impressed as I know the time, effort and money that goes into these decorative choices. In the world of interiors, it is easy to forget how expensive something is. I’ve heard myself suggesting pricey items to other people. Only later realising that it was a piece of utterly bonkers advice. When I started to work on my own home, everything came into stark reality. Painting a room was an alarming amount (or a huge amount of time), and the quote for changing the carpets appalled me ( we have yet to do so) and don’t get me started on joinery. Suffice it to say, the house hasn’t really had any input from me apart from jamming picture hooks into any available wallspace.
So, with Knock Knock, it was going against the overly pristine home. Yes, many of our kind Knock Knock participants tidy up before taking their pictures, but it isn't a show home. More often than not, these places have been done without the help of an interior designer; many of them are rented, but all have been decorated with a lot of love. So I wanted to revisit some of them as I am sure they will offer up some inspiration or just an excellent nosy around someone else's house (including my old home).
